Artificial Intelligence: From browsing to dialogue with AI – How AI is redefining discovery
:quality(80):format(webp))
30 November 2022 marked a turning point. On that day, OpenAI launched ChatGPT. What followed was not a gradual rise, but an explosion: 1 million users in just 5 days.
By way of comparison: it took Netflix 3.5 years to do this, and Instagram 2.5 months.
Why is this figure more than just a vanity metric? Because it marks the end of a 20-year era. For two decades, ‘searching’ on the internet meant typing keywords into a search bar and hoping for relevant links. We were hunters and gatherers of information.
Since that day, the paradigm has shifted. We no longer search. We engage in dialogue.
For brands and companies at a turning point, this is not just a technical gimmick, but a fundamental strategic challenge. The question is no longer: ‘Can my website be found?’ The question is: ‘Can a machine understand what I’m offering and formulate a response?’
The Evolution of Discovery: From ‘Search’ to ‘Dialogue’
The traditional world of SEO is undergoing radical change. Until now, we have optimised content for people so that search engines would rank it. In the era of Generative AI (GenAI), discovery is shifting from a list of blue links to a direct answer.
If a user asks, “What is the best packaging solution for sensitive medical equipment?”, they don’t want to have to click through ten links. They want a concise answer.
What this means for you is: Your brand must AI-Ready . Your content no longer needs to be ‘beautiful’ solely to the human eye; it must be structured semantically in such a way that Large Language Models (LLMs) can read, interpret and use it as a valid source. Anyone who fails in this regard will simply not feature in the AI’s response.
Architecture First: Why ‘Headless’ is becoming the norm
This transformation requires a rethink of the technical infrastructure. Monolithic systems are too slow to keep up with the speed at which AI services retrieve and reorganise data.
To thrive in the age of dialogue, companies need Headless Architectures and a API-first approach. Content can only be displayed dynamically if it is organised into modular components – whether on a website, in an app or as input for an AI bot.
A practical example from our work is the AI-powered Running Shoe Finder:
Instead of making the user click through static filter categories, the system uses a recommendation engine. The user describes their needs (“I run marathons, have flat feet and mostly run on tarmac”), and the AI delivers the perfect product in real time – just like a good sales assistant in a shop.
That is the difference between a database query and genuine consultancy expertise in the digital sphere.
You might be thinking: “That applies to B2C, but in B2B it’s hard facts and personal relationships that count.”
That is a fallacy. The distinction between B2B and B2C no longer exists in users’ minds. We call this Work-life integration. The buyer who books their holiday privately via a chatbot in the morning expects the same seamless experience when procuring industrial components in the office at lunchtime.
Productivity v. Integrity: The Human Factor
The Microsoft Work Trend Index 2025 and recent Copilot studies show that AI massively boosts individual productivity. Employees save time on routine tasks and can focus on strategic work.
But there is a danger here: AI Workshop.
Just because we can now produce content 10 times faster doesn’t mean we should flood the world with mediocre content. On the contrary. In a world where ‘average’ content can be generated at the touch of a button, Excellence and human curation the ultimate distinguishing feature.
Personalised B2B campaigns based on smart data can increase ROI fivefold and speed up deal cycles. But the strategy behind them, the brand’s ethos and the emotional resonance – that remains a human touch.
»AI macht uns schneller und effizienter, aber sie ersetzt keine Integrität. Nutzt Technologie, um menschliche Probleme zu lösen, nicht um Menschlichkeit wegzurationalisieren.«
Conclusion: Take the initiative rather than react
The shift from the search bar to dialogue is in full swing. For businesses at a turning point, this means:
Organise your data: Check that your product data is accurate, modular and machine-readable.
Think in terms of systems: Say goodbye to static websites and hello to smart platforms that provide answers.
Stay true to yourself: Use AI to boost efficiency, but make sure the brand retains its human touch.
We develop brands as a whole, because relevance can only be achieved when technology and identity form a unified system.
