Video First: Why moving images are the new lingua franca in B2B

8 January 2026

When LinkedIn video views rise by 36 per cent to 154 billion in just one year, that’s no longer just a trend – it’s a fundamental shift in the market. We often still view video as a ‘nice-to-have’, as the icing on the cake of our content strategy. That is a fatal mistake.

In a world where attention spans have shrunk to 8 seconds and we scroll 90 metres a day, video is the only language that is still understood fluently and universally.

Anyone who does not speak this language will simply not be heard.

The ‘Always On’ reality: B2B buyers are only human, after all

There is a persistent myth: that in the morning we shed our ‘private self’ and put on the rational, emotionless ‘B2B decision-maker’s suit’.

The reality is quite different. We read emails whilst making coffee, check Slack on the train and watch LinkedIn videos on the sofa.

  • The Zalando effect: We are used to seamless, fast and visual experiences from the B2C sector (Zalando, Airbnb, Spotify).

  • The break: When we come across endless blocks of static text and slow loading times in the B2B sector, it leads to frustration.

The data is clear: 53 per cent of mobile users leave a page if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. Even more concerning: 68 per cent of B2B buyers switch to a competitor if information is not immediately available and easy to understand. Video is the format that conveys this volume of information most quickly. Visual information is processed 60,000 times faster than text.

The untapped power of emotion

This is where the greatest paradox lies – and, at the same time, your greatest opportunity. Whilst video is the dominant medium, most B2B companies are using it completely wrong.

According to LinkedIn Creative Labs, only 7 per cent of B2B video adverts appeal to human emotions. The rest gets lost amongst lists of features and abstract product promises.

Why is that a mistake? Because the ‘human touch’ works. Videos that show real people and authentic stories achieve 78 per cent more engagement. We don’t buy from companies; we buy from people we understand and trust. Authenticity beats glossy marketing.

Adapt or Die: What We Can Learn from Instagram

If you’re wondering whether this transformation is really necessary, it’s worth taking a look at Instagram. When TikTok took the market by storm with short-form videos, Meta was faced with a choice: ignore it or adapt radically?

They opted for the ‘Pivot to Video’ (Reels). The result: Instagram was transformed back into a growth engine. They survived because they learnt to adapt.

The same principle applies to B2B brands. It’s not about whether you ‘like’ video. It’s about being where your target audience’s attention lies. If you don’t move, you won’t make a difference in the market.

Strategic formats rather than Hollywood productions

Many companies fail when it comes to video because they think they need a TV studio. The opposite is true. In the ‘attention economy’, what counts is Cultural Coding and Expertise.

  1. Expert Views: Let your subject matter experts have their say. Not scripted, but genuine. When experts share their knowledge, engagement increases by up to 53 per cent. This builds trust in a way that no brochure ever could.

  2. Real Work, Real People: Show the reality. Real stories from the field, real staff, real problems. That’s ‘brand integrity’ in action.

  3. Scanability: Your videos need to be ‘snackable’. Short, snappy and optimised for vertical viewing on a smartphone.

Conclusion: Video is a strategy, not a tactic

We must stop viewing video as an isolated channel. It is an integral part of modern brand management, which sharpens brand identity and shapes experiences.

»Wir optimieren nicht für Video. Wir überleben durch Video. Wer sich nicht bewegt, bewegt auch nichts im Markt.«

So the question isn’t whether you make videos, but how soon you’ll start telling real stories through them.
